“Following in the footsteps of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, Jeff Denoncour has written a wonderful fantasy adventure for all ages. Sword and Bow begs to be read aloud to young readers, but readers of any age will thoroughly enjoy its fast-paced action, vivid characters, and thoughtful wisdom. If you enjoyed The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and The Hobbit, this is definitely a book for you.
Denoncour's writing is crisp and lively, and his world-building is exceptional. Beginning with the magical feeling of Christmastime as seen through the eyes of young protagonists Jeff and Sam and moving into the magical realm of Alfham, the story is a true page-turner, enhanced by wonderful illustrations by Alyce Wolfe that add a nice visual dimension to the story.
There are all the elements of classic fantasy fiction--from elves and monsters to dragons and princesses--but Denoncour's world has its own unique creatures and an added element of ethics and consequences. There are plenty of exciting action sequences and battles with monsters, but the way Denoncour gives each creature its own unique backstory adds an element of morality often overlooked in fantasy writing.
Beyond the exciting plot and interesting characters, the themes of the story will encourage readers to think deeply about how they can make our world a better place for all of us, now and for generations to come. This is a delightful book, and Jeff Denoncour is a truly wonderful storyteller.”

“This is an action-packed, fantasy/adventure novel about two brothers on a quest to save a dying world. It is aimed at middle schoolers but we have had so much fun reading it with our five year old who can follow the main plot points and enjoy the action sequences. I also had a hard time putting it down 😊. Some additional thoughts: for young kids with emerging interest in play involving fighting and weapons: this book introduces age-appropriate ethics around these themes with a strong moral message centered around peace, respect for the natural world and the value of all living things.”
